كَلَّا لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ
“No way! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher!”
What Is This Surah About?
Surah Al-Humazah is like a story with two parts.
- Part One (Verses 1-3): This part talks about a bad habit, being mean to people, bragging too much, and thinking that having lots of money means you’ll live forever.
- Part Two (starting at Verse 4): This is where everything changes! The Surah says “No way!” and tells us the truth: that person will be thrown into a place called “The Crusher.” The rest of the Surah explains what The Crusher is and what happens to people who act this way.
Let’s Break Down Some Special Arabic Words
- “Kalla” (كَلَّا) — “No way!”
This word shows up a lot in the Quran, and it’s not just a regular “no.” It’s a big, loud “NO WAY!” Imagine your friend was about to touch a hot stove, and you shouted “STOP!” That’s the kind of energy this word has. It’s Allah saying, “Absolutely not, stop thinking that way, and listen closely to what I’m about to tell you!” This word is like a big red stop sign in the middle of the Surah, turning the story from talking about the bad behavior to showing what happens because of it. - “Nabatha” (نَبَذَ) — “To toss away like garbage”
This isn’t a gentle word at all. It doesn’t mean placing something down carefully, like setting a pencil on your desk. It means throwing something far away because you don’t want it or care about it anymore, like tossing a candy wrapper in the trash. In this verse, it tells us that the person who was unkind and boastful will be thrown far, far away into the Hutama (The Crusher), with no care at all.
Why This Verse Sounds So Serious
The Arabic language has some clever tricks to make this warning feel extra powerful, kind of like how in English, we might say “I will DEFINITELY do it!” instead of just “I’ll do it.” Here’s how the Quran does it:
- A Hidden Promise: The way the sentence is built already hints that something big and serious is coming.
- A “Definitely” Sound: A little sound is added to the beginning of the word to mean “for sure” or “without a doubt.”
- An “Extra Emphasis” Sound: A sound is added to the end of the word to make it feel even stronger and final, like adding an exclamation point!
The Big Lesson
Put it all together, and the verse gives us a serious warning: someone who is unkind to others (humaza) because they think their money makes them better than everyone else… will be thrown far away into Hutama (The Crusher), with no honor at all.
